Microsoft Reveals More Xbox Series X Specs

Since Microsoft initially announced the Xbox Series X in December 2019, we have heard almost next to nothing about the next-gen console. In a blog post earlier today, Xbox head Phil Spencer has revealed more details about the specs of the upcoming Xbox Series X.

Here’s what we know about the Xbox Series X:

  • 12 Teraflops of GPU using AMD’s latest Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures; four times more processing power than the original Xbox One.
  • Variable Rate Shading (VRS); allows for more stable frame rates and higher resolution without sacrificing image quality.
  • DirectX Ray Tracing; true-to-life lighting, accurate reflections, and a first for consoles.
  • Dynamic Latency Input (DLI); allowing more precise and responsive controls.
  • 120 fps support.
  • HDMI 2.1 support.
  • SSD storage.
  • Backwards compatibility support (Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One).
  • Smart Delivery tech, ensuring that players only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on. What this essentially means is that if you buy an Xbox One game, it will be automatically playable for free on the Xbox Series X.

Interestingly, the Xbox Series X will also feature a new Quick Resume feature, which lets players continue multiple games from a suspended state almost instantly by returning them to where they were playing before. The PS4 already has this feature in the form of Rest Mode, though the Xbox Series X version sounds more powerful and seamless.

All of these new features seem like they’re geared towards gamers and ensuring the best gaming experience, which is the total opposite of what Microsoft did when they launched the Xbox One many years ago. It’s good to seem them finally start learning from their mistakes.

The Xbox Series X is slated to release sometime in Holiday 2020. We’ll surely learn more about the next-gen console at E3 2020, which Microsoft will attend with their usual huge press conference.
