GTA IV: Complete Edition Comes To Steam Next Month, But It’s Missing Something
By Melvyn Tan|February 20, 2020|1 Comment
After being removed from Steam last month, Grand Theft Auto IV is making a comeback with the so-called GTA IV: Complete Edition. It will “replace both Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City wherever it is currently digitally available” on March 19, and will be available on the Rockstar Games Launcher as well.
Despite the name, however, GTA IV: Complete Edition is actually missing a pretty significant part of the original: multiplayer.
The loss of multiplayer is a consequence of Rockstar yanking Games for Windows Live out of GTA IV. A Rockstar spokesperson told USgamer that “Grand Theft Auto 4 was originally created for the Games For Windows Live platform”.
“With Microsoft no longer supporting Games For Windows Live, it is no longer possible to generate the additional keys needed to continue selling the current version of the game”.
Aside from losing multiplayer and leaderboards, some radio stations will be temporarily unavailable in the Complete Edition. These include RamJam FM, Self-Actualization FM, and Vice City FM.
Rockstar have also detailed how to update your copy of GTA IV or Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City to the Complete Edition. For Steam users, Episodes from Liberty City will be replaced with Complete Edition in the library, with the update size being 22GB.
GTA IV owners will receive Episodes from Liberty City’s content before having their game updated to Complete Edition, with the update size being 6GB
Meanwhile, those who still have your physical copies but haven’t activated it with Games for Windows Live can use the provided key to get access to the Complete Edition. If you did activate your copy with Games for Windows Live, you’ll have to link your Rockstar Social Club account. After that, the game will update to the Complete Edition. Have fun!
