Discord Ups Live Streaming And Screen Share Limit Due To Covid-19
By Melvyn Tan|March 12, 2020|0 Comment
The disruption caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus has been incredibly noticeable, with numerous gaming events and life in general being heavily affected by it. In light of the latter, Discord has decided to do a little something to make things a bit easier for us.
For “the next few months”, Discord will be increasing their Go Live streaming and screen share limit from 10 to 50 people. “We know a lot of you around the world are currently using Discord to keep in touch and perform daily tasks from keeping up with classes to working from home,” they wrote. “We want to help make your world a little less stressful.”

Go Live is a feature that allows you to stream to others in a server voice channel. While I’m not sure how that’d help with work and classes, the buffed-up screen share function could definitely be useful. A Discord representative even told PC Gamer that some educators on Twitter have talked about using Discord as “a solution for remote teaching”.
The Covid-19 situation has shown how online platforms are being used to make up for the absence of live events and physical meetings. While Discord says that the increased numbers will be maintained “while it’s most critically needed” and notes that streams with large numbers of people might create issues, it’s nice to see them doing something good in these times.
