AMG-Chan 2020 Has Been Postponed

Bad news, anime fans in Malaysia. The upcoming AMG-Chan 2020 event has been postponed. AniManGaki made the announcement on their Facebook page just a few hours ago.

You can probably guess what’s the reason. In their post, AniManGaki wrote that they made the decision after consultation with Quill City Mall (where AMG-Chan was to be held), local authorities, and the Ministry of Health. They noted that the region had seen a large increase in Covid-19 cases lately.

“Despite previous plans to take extra precautionary measures on-ground, the risk to continue the event is too high a chance for a potential outbreak,” they wrote. “As our priority would always be the safety of our attendees, staffs, exhibitors and everyone else involved in the event, our team has collectively agreed to make this difficult decision.”

They added, “Our team will be holding an emergency meeting this weekend to re-access the situation and decide on how we are to proceed from here. For now, we just need everyone to stay healthy and well as we ride this out together.”

AMG-Chan was originally meant to be held on March 21 and March 22. It would have had competitions for cosplay, dancing, and singing, booths, and a Granblue Fantasy Versus tournament among other things. The main AniManGaki 2020 event in August remains untouched for now.

While it’s sad to see AMG-Chan affected, safety has to come first, and it’s good to see the AniManGaki team take measures to ensure that.
