Illidan Stormrage Is Coming To Hearthstone In April’s Ashes of Outland Expansion

Hearthstone‘s Ashes of Outland expansion is coming, and it’s bringing with it the Demon Hunter, Illidan Stormrage.

Hearthstone is the one Blizzard game whose existence I forget about the most, so I was surprised to learn that this is the game’s first post-launch class.

“Illidan Stormrage, the newest playable Hero in Hearthstone, embodies the Demon Hunter’s class identity. He’s an aggressive attacker who leads his fel-infused forces into the fray,” says Blizzard’s blog post. “While other Heroes may buff and heal their minions, Illidan instead fuels himself with their souls when they fall in combat, taking vengeance upon his enemies.”

There’s a focus on aggression with the Demon Hunter class, as it uses its “own health as a resource” and relies on “smaller chip heals via Lifesteal” to regain health. Instead of buffing and healing minions, Illidan prefers to let them die and “fuels himself with their souls” when they do so. However, they can also use fel magic to “deploy massive demons to the battlefield far earlier than expected”.

The Demon Hunter’s Hero Power is Demon Claws, which is a low mana cost “one mana-cost boost” to his Attack. The class comes with a new unique keyword called Outcast as well. Cards with this keyword have “have impactful bonuses when played from the left or right-most position in your hand”.

There will a prologue campaign for the Demon Hunter on 2 April 2020 with free rewards upon completion, and the class will “officially unlock” on 7 April 2020 after its completion. The Year of the Phoenix rotation will also introduce 15 new Demon Hunter cards with each of its future expansions.

For the full run-down on the Demon Hunter class’ playstyle and abilities, check out Blizzard’s blog. You can also pre-purchase Ashes of Outland for US$49.99 (RM217.86), which nets you 55 card packs, while the mega bundle gives you 90 packs for US$79.99 (RM348.62).
