The Devs Seem To Be Loving PS5 Specs So Far

In response to Microsoft announcing the specs for Xbox Series X, Sony revealed the specs for their own next-gen console several days ago. However, the presentation was overly-technical for many normal gamers/consumers, who found it confusing and unclear.

On the other hand, game developers seem to really like what they’re hearing about the PS5 so far.

First up is The Order 1886 developer Ready At Dawn Studios founder and CTO Andrea Passino. According to him, the PS5 is so much more than simply its pure specs, and that it will be “one of the most revolutionary, inspired home consoles ever designed”.

Another is Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us Part 2 co-director (and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy director) Kurt Margenau, who said that the PS5’s SSD will mark a big leap for future games, especially PlayStation first-party exclusives. He’d certainly know, considering where and what he’s worked on.

Other developers have also echoed the same sentiment; that the PS5 SSD will be a literal game-changer, breaking current-gen limitations for bigger and better games. These include The Last Of Us Part 2 co-director Anthony Newman, Promethean AI founder Andrew Maximov, and former Insomniac Games employee James Cooper.

Here’s what they all said:

Last but not least, Borderlands franchise developer Gearbox Software co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford also voiced out his approval of the PS5 on his personal Twitter account.

Despite being weaker in terms of raw power (and number of Teraflops) when compared with the Xbox Series X, it looks like the PS5 is already winning the hearts of developers before it even launches. That bodes well for Sony’s next-gen console, but it’s still too early to say for sure.

For instance, Sony themselves don’t even seem like they’re sure about the full extent of the PS5’s backwards compatibility, even though it’s already slated to launch in about eight or nine months at this point.

In case you missed it, you can read all about the specs and technical details of the PS5 here. In the meantime, head on over here to check out all our other PS5-related news and feature articles.
