“We are heartbroken after learning today of the passing of one of our co-founders, Landon Montgomery,” they wrote.
“In our earliest years, Landon played a big role in helping to set our path. We will always be thankful and remember him for being a part of our lives. During this trying time, our thoughts, support, and affection are with those who were closest to him.”
Montgomery oversaw the day-to-day operations at Gearbox for over a decade, and was involved in franchises like Half-Life, Halo, and James Bond and games like Half-Life: Opposing Force, James Bond: Nightfire, and Brothers in Arms. He left the company in 2010. In 2016, he joined Daybreak Game Company where he worked as its general manager, and became a producer at Nvidia in November 2019.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
