Dragon’s Lair Is Getting A Live-Action Netflix Adaptation

The video game adaptations on Netflix are still a-churning. This time, the target is 80s arcade quarter muncher Dragon’s Lair.

The game that coined quick time events before the term even came up and was a media sensation due to its production values and Don Bluth animation will be getting a live-action movie on Netflix. Ryan Reynolds will be producing AND starring in the show (via Hollywood Reporter); most likely he would be a perfect Dirk the Daring.

The live-action script will be written by Dan and Kevin Hageman, who are responsible for last year’s Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark screenplay.

For those who weren’t born in the 80s, Dragon’s Lair was one of the best-looking games back in that era; all those graphics were crammed into Laserdisc technology. It spawned a few sequels and some console ports, but they don’t compare to the arcade original. Basically, you had to go to your local arcade to play it in its pristine glory.

Because of how fast you had to react to the timed inputs on-screen, Dragon’s Lair ate a buttload of quarters from players. Once you’ve played through the game and know what to do, it’ll take you at least 12 minutes to beat. Just check out the entire duology below if you’re not too keen playing this game yourself.
