This Fan-Made Open-World RPG Bionicle Game Looks Epic

Remember Bionicle? If you were a 90s kid or grew up in the early 2000s, these were LEGO with their own extensive lore and narrative, similar to Hasbro’s Transformers. There were even several movies and games, the most popular of which was 2003’s Bionicle: Mask Of Light and it’s tie-in game, Bionicle (which I played on the PS2).

It’s incredible that several fans of the franchise (calling themselves CrainyCreation) are now attempting to revive it with Bionicle: Quest For Mata Nui; a fan-made open-world RPG game that (unfortunately) isn’t officially affiliated with LEGO or the Bionicle trademark.

After a whopping six years of development, the first major trailer for the game has been released. For a fan-made game, the visuals look pretty great and the game feels ambitious. The 2-minute trailer reveals that there will be NPCs, quests, and an intricate combat system.

In an interview with TechRaptor, when asked whether the gameplay has been inspired by Dark Souls and Soulsborne combat, lead developer Crainy said:

“Haha, I knew something like this would come up.

Well, I would say [it’s] not accurate.

The game definitely takes some cues from FromSoftware games, especially in regards to some of the combat, but it has a different flow and pacing compared to something like Dark Souls.”

There is no release date for Bionicle: Quest For Mata Nui, but it is being developed to be free-to-play for PC and Mac platforms. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
