Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Rogue One Update Will Be Its Last

Last week, EA DICE announced that the upcoming June 2020 update will be the last for Battlefield V. Earlier today, the developer has revealed that the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Battle For Scarif update for Star Wars Battlefront 2 on 29 April 2020 will also be the game’s last major content update.

The Battle on Scarif update will not only add the tropical planet location (as seen in the climax of the Rogue One movie) to multiple modes, but also new hero and villain skins based on Star Wars Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, including Rey with her new yellow lightsaber, Kylo Ren with his reforged mask, and a new (zombie) version of Emperor Palpatine.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Final Update 1

In addition, the Age of Rebellion (Star Wars Original Trilogy content) will be made available in both the Supremacy and Instant Action modes, with battles on Hoth, Tatooine, Yavin 4, and the Death Star.

In a statement to IGN, an EA spokesperson clarified that while Battlefield V and Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be receiving their last major updates, both games will still be supported in other ways.

“The team at DICE is working on the standalone Battlefield V update releasing this summer, and continuing their work on delivering Community Games.

While the studio’s vision for Star Wars Battlefront II is now complete with this week’s The Battle on Scarif Update, the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events and game support will continue as the game lives on with players and the community.

We’re looking forward to hearing players’ stories for both games, for years to come.

Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we’ll be bringing to players in 2021.”

This confirms that EA DICE will be shifting most of its resources and manpower towards a new next-gen Battlefield game in 2021. However, details remain scarce at the time of writing.
