Don’t Expect A Next-Gen Cyberpunk 2077 So Soon
By Melvyn Tan|April 10, 2020|0 Comment
We’ve known that Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable on the Xbox Series X if you’ve got it on the Xbox One, thanks to some neat cross-gen compatibility. A proper next-gen version of the game, however, won’t be available so soon.
According to Video Games Chronicle, CD Projekt SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski said in an earnings call that a next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077Â would “come later”.
“In terms of Microsoft’s console, like I said, we have officially confirmed both the update and the cross-gen availability, meaning that you’ll be able to play the game from the get-go on the next-gen,†he said.
“However, when it comes to a proper, full-blown next-gen version, that’s going to come later, we haven’t announced when and I don’t have a new comment here on that.”
Nowakowski also said that due to a lack of official announcements from PlayStation, “we really can’t confirm or deny anything. It’s PlayStation that first needs to address these issues and then we’re happy to make a comment, but we can’t jump the gun ahead of them.â€
This is likely an allusion to how the folks at Sony “believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on” the PS5, as compared to Microsoft’s confident statement that all Xbox One games will be playable on the Xbox Series X.
It’s a shame that there won’t be a next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 launching at the same time as the new consoles, but CD Projekt Red likely has their hands full with the current-gen version already, what with the delay from April. Besides, even the launch of the current-gen version would be momentous enough, given that the game was teased all the way back in 2013.
In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, the game is still on track for its September release in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’ve been operating in this mode for over three weeks and to-date results confirm that we can carry on with all our operations without major disruptions,” CD Projekt Red said.
