Google Stadia Is Now Free, But There’s A Catch
By Alleef Ashaari|April 9, 2020|0 Comment
Google Stadia may be dead in the water, but that’s not stopping Google from taking advantage of the fact that people are stuck at home and launching its Stadia game streaming service for free.
That’s right, Google Stadia is now free for anyone with a Gmail account, and you can even opt for an additional two months worth of Stadia Pro trial. After the two months end, Google Stadia Pro will still cost US$9.99 per month, offering better resolution at 4K. Only the basic Stadia will remain free.
This comes just two months after Google promised a free version was imminent, and it will mean anyone can get access to nine titles for free, including GRID, Destiny 2: The Collection, and Thumper. However, keep in mind that you still have to actually buy other games to play them on Stadia.
Don’t celebrate the rise of cloud gaming just yet, because there’s a catch. Only a laughable total of 14 countries will be able to access the free Google Stadia as of now. There’s no telling when or even if the service is coming to Malaysia or the rest of Southeast Asia.
However, to accommodate the ten new people subscribing to Google Stadia, the company is temporarily changing the default screen resolution of Stadia Pro from 4K to 1080p in order to reduce the bandwidth Internet load.
If you’re lucky enough to be living in any of the countries listed below, you can now sign up for free over at the official website here.
