Activision Blizzard Confirms New Call Of Duty & Two Mysterious Titles For 2020
By Alleef Ashaari|May 6, 2020|0 Comment
Activision Blizzard has published its first-quarter earnings report for 2020, in which the company has detailed the financial results of early 2020 to date. Besides the usual numbers and statistics, what’s interesting is that they have confirmed what games are still yet to come for the rest of 2020.
The developer/publisher has confirmed that the next “premium release” for the Call Of Duty franchise is slated to arrive later this year. However, they have neglected to mention any details, including which developer will be helming this year’s entry. There have been rumours swirling that it might be set during the Vietnam War.
Another tasty tidbit is that the company still has at least two titles based “library IP from Activision” scheduled for release sometime in 2020. Since they specifically mentioned Activision IP, it can’t be anything Overwatch, Diablo or Warcraft-related. It might very well be that long-rumoured new Crash Bandicoot game.
The only other confirmed new content coming in 2020 is for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, which was initially announced during BlizzCon 2019. In addition, it’s worth pointing out that Call Of Duty Warzone has brought more than 60 million players since launching in March 2020, while Call Of Duty Modern Warfare has apparently sold more units and has more players than any prior Call of Duty title at this point after its release.
From the sound of things, I think it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing Overwatch 2 anytime soon, or even in 2020 itself. After being announced at BlizzCon 2019, Activision Blizzard has been pretty quiet on that front, and they didn’t even mention the game in the earnings report.
The official key art for the earnings report below also puts Crash Bandicoot front and centre, which may lend further credibility to the idea of a new Crash Bandicoot game in 2020. It might ultimately be a coincidence, but at this point, anything is possible.
For now, Activision Blizzard is clearly riding high on the momentum set by Call Of Duty Modern Warfare and Call Of Duty Warzone, both of which boast a combined monthly active user count of a whopping 102 million players. If that’s not enough, Blizzard alone has over 32 million monthly active users across World Of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Overwatch and Diablo Immortal.
