New Star Trek Series With Discovery’s Captain Pike & Spock Is In The Works

Another new Star Trek series has officially been announced, as Anson Mount and Ethan Peck will reprise their roles as Captain Pike and Spock from Star Trek Discovery in a new prequel series titled Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will take place before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series.

Joining them will be Rebecca Romjin, who will also be reprising her role as Number One from Star Trek Discovery in the upcoming new series. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will follow them and the rest of the Starship Enterprise crew.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard writers/producers Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet are developing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

This newly-announced series marks the fifth Star Trek series for CBS All Access, after Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Section 31, and the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks. A CG-animated series for younger audiences is also in development for CBS All Access sister company Nickelodeon.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 will debut sometime later this year, while Star Trek: Picard ended its first season earlier this year and has already been renewed for a second. Release dates for Section 31, Star Trek: Lower Decks, the Star Trek Nickelodeon series, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have yet to be officially announced.

In Star Trek lore, Captain Christopher Pike was the second person to take command of the USS Enterprise after Captain Robert April. He commanded the Starfleet’s flagship from 2250 to 2265 before the iconic Captain James Tiberius Kirk replaced him. As such, we have a 15-year timeframe to ultimately explore in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
