Gamescom 2020 Is Going Digital This August
By Alleef Ashaari|May 19, 2020|0 Comment
After weeks of speculation over whether Gamescom 2020 will be replacing its cancelled event this year, the organizers have officially announced their plans for a fully-digital event taking place from 27 to 30 August 2020.
According to the press release, the Gamescom 2020 digital event will feature a dedicated Gamescom Now platform as a content hub for all latest information and updates, a Devcom Digital Conference for game developers and other trade visitors, as well as the main event, which will be Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live, which will now take place on 27 August 2020.
Last year’s Opening Night Live featured major announcements and reveals for games like Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Nintendo Switch, PS4 exclusive Erica, and more.
In addition, there will also be several shows like Awesome Indies (focusing on announcements and news about the most anticipated indie titles), Daily Show (focusing on the daily highlights of the event, as well as the shows and promotions of gaming companies and partners), and Best of Show, which will conclude the entire event with highlights and a presentation of the Gamescom award.
Anyone can access the Gamescom 2020 digital event without having to purchase any tickets. In an official statement, Gamescom 2020 managing director Felix Falk said:
“This year, all our energies for Gamescom 2020 is going into digital.
In a short amount of time and working in close tandem with some of the world’s most important gaming companies on the Gamescom advisory board, we have been able to develop a powerful and focused concept for gamescom 2020.
We are anticipating surprising shows, numerous world premieres, announcements and special promotions that will set the entire games world all abuzz about gamescom at the end of August.”
Further information on specific schedules will be updated on the new official Gamescom 2020 website.
