Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales For PS5 Is A Standalone Game (Update)

Update:

Insomniac Games have finally (somewhat) clarified about what exactly Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales is supposed to be. No, it is not an expansion or a remaster of 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Instead, Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales is meant to be a standalone game in the vein of what 2017’s Uncharted The Lost Legacy was to 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

However, from the sound of the tweet, it does seem like it will at least take place after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man, which could already be logically gleaned from the fact that Miles Morales is already Spider-Man in the trailer when he had just only confessed to Peter Parker at the end of the first game.

During the PS5 – Future Of Gaming live stream earlier today, Insomniac Games unveiled a trailer teasing a title called Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. At first, many gamers and publications naturally assumed that it would be a sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, but the truth is more complicated.

Speaking to The Telegraph (via VGC), Sony Interactive Entertainment EVP head of European Business, Simon Rutter described Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales on the PS5 as:

“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game.

There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”

It remains unclear if this means that Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales would be a remaster of the original 2018 game with additional Miles Morales content, or if it’s a standalone expansion title like 2017’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy or 2014’s Infamous: First Light.

We’ll have to wait for official clarification from Insomniac Games. Until then, catch the trailer below, or head on over here to check out all our other PS5-related news and feature articles.
