Margot Robbie, currently the definitive live-action portrayal of DC’s Harley Quinn, will be making a switch from Gotham criminal to high seas robber.
She, alongside Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, will be setting sail in a new female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean film for Disney. She will be attached as a star, obviously.
This Pirates project will be separate from the already-announced franchise reboot that’s being developed by Pirates scribe Ted Elliott and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin. The female Pirates movie will not be a spin-off to the Jack Sparrow series either; it’ll be an original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker. Jerry Bruckheimer will be producing both these films.
Will Margot Robbie be the Rule 63 version of Jack Sparrow, or an entirely original pirate who may be just as wacky? Guess we’ll find out way, way later, as the project is still kept in Davey Jones’ locker.
