Capcom’s Game Sales Are Mostly Digital & Rising
Guess going digital does pay off.
Capcom’s digital sales ratio on games is currently at 80% and is trending upwards, according to answers and inquiries on the company’s annual shareholders meeting.
“While it ultimately depends on how our customers behave going forward, for the time being we are promoting our digital strategy with an objective of 90%, since there are some customers who prefer to own discs.
We aim to continue expanding our business performance by maximizing the benefits of digital sales, which include being able to provide our content both for longer periods of time and throughout the world.”
Last year, its digital distribution made up 53.3% of its sales. So this is basically an awesome jump for the company. It may have a lot to do with people wanting to play a heckaton of Capcom games on PC (and other platforms) due to recent world events where we’re shuttered at home for a quarter of 2020, but it’s still a windfall for the company.
That, and Monster Hunter World and its Iceborne expansion.
