Dragon Quest Card Game Gets New Title & Single-Player Mode In August

The Dragon Quest Rivals card game initially launched in June 2020, but exclusively for Japan. Barely a month after its release, Square Enix has announced that they are already rebranding the game as Dragon Quest Rivals Ace next month in August 2020.

Dragon Quest Rivals Ace will receive a new single-player mode and the “Heroes of Triumphal Return” card pack, the first volume in the “Shin” series of card packs. The developer is also set to host “Rivals LIVE! Vol. 1,” the first in a series of Dragon Quest Rivals Ace live streams, on 6 August 2020 at 7pm GMT+8 (via Gematsu).

The upcoming live stream will share the latest information, which includes an explanation of the new “Solo Battle Adventure” mode, a look at the legendary rare cards and new systems that appear in the “Heroes of Triumphal Return”, as well as live gameplay footage.

The scheduled presenters include MC Ayana Tsubaki, guests Tomokazu Sugita (voice actor) and Chomosh (pro-gamer), as well as Square Enix representatives Tatsuhiro Futagi (Dragon Quest Rivals producer) and Yusuke Tomida (administrative producer).

Dragon Quest Rivals is available now only in Japan for the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop, PC via Steam, iOS via the App Store, and Android via Google Play. However, there’s no telling when, or if, it’s ever launching outside of Japan.

This is a great year for the Dragon Quest franchise, with lots of new games and anime in the works, as well as the fact that it’s coming to the Xbox for the first time ever.
