SDCC 2020: Best Of Day 1
By Alleef Ashaari|July 24, 2020|1 Comment
The first day of San Diego Comic-Con 2020 (SDCC 2020), or rather, Comic-Con At Home 2020, was pretty awesome, despite taking place fully online and not being an event at an actual convention (due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic).
While big wigs like Marvel and DC Comics are absent from this year’s iteration, we still received a bunch of exciting reveals and announcements from a variety of panels. Check them out below:
The Star Trek Universe panel at SDCC 2020 finally revealed the official name and logo for the second modern Star Trek animated series (the first is the upcoming Star Trek Lower Decks). Star Trek Prodigy is a CG-animated series that “follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation”.
It is being developed by Kevin and Dan Hageman of Netflix’s Trollhunters and LEGO Ninjago fame. Star Trek Prodigy is slated to launch on Nickelodeon sometime in 2021, produced by CBS’ Eye Animation Productions.
Star Trek Prodigy is the sixth new Star Trek series in development since the premiere of Star Trek Discovery in 2017, Star Trek Picard earlier this year, Star Trek Strange New Worlds, the Section 31 spinoff and the aforementioned Star Trek Lower Decks.
Check out our first look at Star Trek Lower Decks, which is slated to premiere on 6 August 2020:

From creators/writers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (both of whom starred in Shaun of the Dead), Truth Seekers is a supernatural comedy-drama series featuring a group of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover a deadly conspiracy.
It looks like a zanier and very British take on Ghostbusters, but with Pegg and Frost together again at their horror-comedy roots, we all know this is likely going to be great. Truth Seekers will feature eight episodes in its first season, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video sometime in fall 2020.

HBO has unveiled the first trailer for His Dark Materials Season 2. The panel for the series also revealed additional cast members joining for the second season, including legendary British actor Terence Stamp as Giacomo Paradisi, Jade Anouka as Ruta Skadi and Simone Kirby as Dr. Mary Malone.
It will be based on the second book of Phillip Pullman’s fantasy series; The Subtle Knife.
His Dark Materials Season 2 is slated to premiere sometime in fall 2021, though it has been shortened to only seven episodes when it was originally eight (due to filming being disrupted by COVID-19).

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming conspiracy thriller drama Utopia, which is an American remake of a British TV series of the same name that aired from 2013 to 2014.
The official synopsis for Utopia reads:
“Utopia centers on a group of comic fans who meet online and bond over their obsession of a seemingly fictional comic called ‘Utopia.’
Together, Ian (Dan Byrd), Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges), and Grant (Javon “Wanna†Walton) unearth hidden meanings cloaked within the pages of ‘Utopia,’ predicting threats to humanity.
They realize these are not just the makings of a conspiracy; they are very real dangers coming alive right now in their world.”
Fun fact: Utopia was created by Gillian Flynn, the author of Gone Girl and Sharp Objects, both of which have also been adapted into a critically-acclaimed movie and TV series, respectively.
It is slated to premiere sometime in fall 2020. In the meantime, check out the trailer below:

Bill & Ted Face The Music has received a new trailer and a new release date. The highly-anticipated third entry in the cult classic movie franchise will now be released both in cinemas and video-on-demand (VOD) via digital retailers on 1 September 2020.
The new trailer showcases more of what to expect, including Alex Winters and Keanu Reeves reprising their iconic roles as Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore†Logan. It teases the duo embarking on another time-travelling adventure to steal music from their future selves.
At the same time, Wilhelmina Billie “Little Bill†Logan (Brigette Lundy-Paine) and Thea “Little Ted†Preston (Samara Weaving) (the daughter of Bill and Ted, respectively), also embark on their own excellent adventure.
