Sorry, PC and Xbox players.
Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that Spider-Man will be coming to Marvel’s Avengers as a free PlayStation exclusive. However, the wallcrawler will only be available as a playable character post-launch sometime in 2021, so he won’t be available at launch.
In a post on PlayStation Blog, Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers is described as “graceful and light, and able to utilize a variety of web configurations and gadgets”.
His design will be influenced by the comic book art of Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr. His arrival in Marvel’s Avengers will also mark the beginning of an event, which will include a series of unique challenges.
As of now, both Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have yet to specify or confirm if Spider-Man’s appearance in Marvel’s Avengers would be a permanent PlayStation exclusive or a timed one.
So far, the full roster for Marvel’s Avengers includes Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Ms Marvel AKA Kamala Khan, Hawkeye (post-launch), and now Spider-Man (post-launch).
It will be interesting to see this unique version of Spider-Man. Marvel’s Avengers is slated to release for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on 4 September 2020, as well as later on for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Too bad players might be getting an inferior version of a full-price game if they’re getting it for non-Playstation platforms thanks to Sony and their championing of the Spider-Man license.
