Warzone Will Be Updated & Tied With Future Call Of Duty Games

Infinity Ward’s Design Director Geoff Smith recently spoke with GamesRadar in an interview ahead of the Call Of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 launch, which is slated for 5 August 2020.

In the interview, Smith confirmed that Call Of Duty Warzone was “built to be a standalone game”, and is not only tied specifically to 2019’s Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, as was previously believed.

He also said that it will continue to be updated and “evolve”, thereby tieing into other future Call of Duty games, whatever they may be (it might be Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War, as far as we know).

Smith said:

“Although Warzone is very closely tied to Modern Warfare, it was designed from the beginning as its own game.

As the game continues to be updated over time, it will evolve and become tied to other games in the Call of Duty universe.”

However, Activision has yet to reveal any details on the supposed Call Of Duty 2020 title, so it remains to be seen how Warzone will be integrated. For instance, the Verdansk map could potentially receive a 70s redesign with Vietnam War-era weapons and vehicles.

Smith added:

“It’s extremely important to us that the game continues to evolve.

From the beginning, we’ve strived to continuously bring new and different ways for fans to play and continue having fun in both Modern Warfare and Warzone.”
