Epic Announces Free Fortnite Cup As Farewell Event For iOS Users
By Alleef Ashaari|August 21, 2020|0 Comment
Last week, Epic Games announced that Apple is terminating Epic Games developer accounts and cutting Epic Games off from its Mac and iOS development tools starting from 28 August 2020, effecting rendering Fortnite unplayable on iOS platforms.
In their latest shot against Apple, Epic Games is hosting a new Free Fortnite Cup to celebrate the quest for one more Victory Royale with friends across all platforms. It will take place on 23 August 2020, and will be the last time all platforms will be able to play together.
This is because, until 28 August 2020, Fortnite users who already have the game installed on their iOS devices are currently able to continue playing the game. However, they won’t be able to do that anymore when Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 launches next week.
To participate, players need to navigate to the in-game Compete tab to see when the event starts for their respective region and during the scheduled time, they can drop into the tournament by selecting the Free Fortnite Cup Playlist.
For four hours, eligible players have the opportunity to win prizes in the Free Fortnite Cup. Compete as a Solo player in up to 12 matches. Scoring is as follows:
As part of the Free Fortnite Cup, Epic Games is also offering an impressive variety of prizes ranging from in-game skins and a physical Free Fortnite hat to even hardware such as Alienware laptops, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 tablets, OnePlus 8 phones, as well as PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch consoles.
Last but not least, Epic Games is also sharing tips for iOS users worried about being unable to continue playing Fortnite, recommending that they make sure their game data is stored in their Epic accounts and investigate alternative Fortnite-compatible devices where they can simply pick up where they left off.
For Android users, Epic notes that users can still install it through other means such as Samsung’s Galaxy Store or sideloading, despite the game having also been pulled from the Google Play store.
