Fortnite Removed From Apple & Google Stores In Epic Games’ War Against Oppressive Policies
By Alleef Ashaari|August 14, 2020|0 Comment
After Epic Games launched its own direct payment method for Fortnite on Apple and Android mobile devices this morning, both Apple and Google have removed the popular battle royale from their respective stores on the App Store and Play Store. In response, Epic Games has filed a legal injunction against both Apple and Google in a bid to wage war against what the company deems to be monopolistic and oppressive policies.
These refer to Apple and Google’s 30 percent cut of app store purchases, which has been regarded as unfair by not only Epic Games but also other game developers. Last night, Epic Games began selling V-Bucks in mobile versions of Fortnite at a discount via a new option to buy them from Epic directly.
This violated Apple’s rules, which resulted in them kicking Fortnite out of the store. Now Epic Games is retaliating with a lawsuit, a parody commercial of Apple’s iconic 1984 commercial and even a #FreeFortnite hashtag already trending.
As reported by The Verge, Google has done the same, removing Fortnite off the Google Play store. However, Fortnite is still technically available on Android via Epic Games’ app or the Samsung Galaxy store.
Fortnite’s Party Royale showcased the aforementioned parody of Apple’s 1984 commercial earlier today. The video ended with a text reading:
“Epic Games has defied the App Store Monopoly.
In retaliation, Apple is blocking Fortnite from a billion devices.
