After 26 Years, The Hexen Series Is Getting A Sequel Next Year

90s PC gamers may remember the old-school first-person shooter Heretic and its sequel Hexen. While Heretic was just Doom with fantasy weapons & monsters, Hexen had an open-world non-linear quest chain thing going on, and offered 3 heroes with different playstyles to choose from. Fun stuff, if you can play them via GoG.com.

But if you rather play a recent version of that, 1C Entertainment and 3D Realms has you sorted. The two have announced Graven, a dark fantasy first-person shooter that’s essentially a follow-up to the Heretic and Hexen series. This upcoming title features “old-school late 90s/early 2000s” 3D graphics and aesthetics, that same non-linear exploration and gameplay structure from Hexen, and a bevvy of weapons like lightning staffs, spellbooks with hard-hitting spells, swords, crossbows, and a staff you can beat people with.

If you’re hankering for more games from this recent resurgence in old-school shooters, you can get it either for PC or Nintendo Switch in 2021. Neo-retro shooty bang-bang trailer below.
