Dragon Quest Anime Gets Official Release Date

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai was originally announced in 2019, but now Square Enix has finally announced the official release date for the upcoming anime reboot.

It’s based on the manga of the same name which was published by Shonen Jump from 1989 to 1996. This will actually be the second anime adaptation of the same property; the first having aired from 1991 to 1992.

The plot of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai is unrelated to any of the eleven Dragon Quest games. It follows protagonist Dai, a 12-year-old boy who lives on an island of peaceful monsters with dreams of becoming a hero. Destiny comes calling when the demon lord, Hadlar, returns to start a new reign of terror.

According to Gematsu, the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai anime will premiere on 3 October 2020 at 9.30 am JST every week on TV Tokyo Network.

The opening theme song, “Ikiru wo Suru,” is sung by Japanese rock band Macaroni Enpitsu.

The anime’s main voice cast is as follows:

  • Dai (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki).
  • Popp (voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga).
  • Maam (voiced by Mikako Komatsu).
  • Leona (voiced by Saori Hayami).
  • Avan (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai).
  • Hyunckel (voiced by Yuuki Kaji).

There will also be several new games related to the anime. Check out the new teaser trailer featuring the anime’s opening theme song below:
