We Now Know How To Pronounce “Kena” In Kena: Bridge Of Spirits…
During the PlayStation 5 reveal stream, the indie darling Kena: Bridge of Spirits graced us with its charming gameplay and aesthetics. Like as if it’s vying for the gorgeous-as-sin platforming throne that Ori and the Will of The Wisps is currently occupying at the moment.
Now we know what the game’s deal is thanks to a recent Game Informer issue. Here’s the breakdown:
-For starters, Kena’s name is pronounced “Kay-nuh”. Not “ke-na”.
-The game is set in a fictional location that’s influenced by Japan, Bali, and a ton of other Asian and Eastern locations.
-You can already tell from the trailer, but we’ll say it: Kena’s gameplay is influenced by The Legend of Zelda. Developer Ember Lab used to create a Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask fan film.
-The black creatures in the trailer are called Rot. Kena can find them scattered around the world and recruit them. They are responsible for decomposing things, and the fact that they have been scattered is one reason why this region has become tainted with corruption.
-Kena can find the Rot scattered around the world and recruit them. They are responsible for decomposing things, and the fact that they have been scattered is one reason why this region has become tainted with corruption. Also, the Rot cannot die.
-Kena’s staff has basic light, heavy, and charged attacks, as well as an upgrade that bends that staff and converts it to a bow. She has a pulse ability to create a bubble shield around her with its own health meter, which can also stagger enemies if timed correctly.
-While Kena is an adventure game, it’s not open world. The village you encounter early on in the game serves as a hub, and you from there you can travel to several connected regions.
-The PS5 version of Kena, you can see all of the Rot you collect on-screen simultaneously because of tech reasons. On the PS4 version, you can only see a few of them on-screen.
-The game loads super-fast on PS5. It took two seconds to load the game fresh from the system menu. While not built from the ground up on PS5 hardware, the additional horsepower allows the devs to do more.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits will be out for PS5, PS4, and PC (via Epic Games) this holiday.
