Warner Bros. has announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will now be releasing on 25 December 2020, instead of the previously-announced 2 October 2020.
This will be Wonder Woman 1984‘s umpteenth release date delay. Speaking with Variety, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins said:
“First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for ‘WW84’ couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie.
Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer.
With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”
This announcement was not totally unexpected, in light of Tenet‘s poor box office showing in the United States (US$20.2 million since premiering on 3 September 2020), considering that most cinemas in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco have yet to reopen from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Last month, we received our first look at Wonder Woman 1984 antagonist Cheetah in all her glory in the latest trailer unveiled at the first day of DC Fandome. Check it out below:
