Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires & Dynasty Warriors Mobile Announced

During Tokyo Game Show 2020, Koei Tecmo announced not one but two new Dynasty Warriors games.

The first is Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam). It will launch sometime in early 2021.

Here is an official overview of the game:

Combining the 1 vs. 1,000 action of Dynasty Warriors with the addition of strategic elements, including unit command, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires sets players on a quest to conquer ancient China by both sword and strategy.

Powerful Siege Battles enable commanders to deploy units to capture strategic points on the map like castles.

Experiencing high-stakes fights at every turn, players can now take control of these central points on the battlefield through the use of fire attacks or other stratagem, siege weapons, and, at times, simply by force as commanders execute their strategies and attack enemy troops by issuing vital commands to units throughout the skirmish.

According to Dynasty Warriors producer Akihiro Suzuki (via Gematsu), Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will not feature an open-world like 2018’s Dynasty Warriors 9. However, it is described as a natural evolution of the Dynasty Warriors Empires series that will utilize the resources of 2018’s Dynasty Warriors 9 to create battles with a sense of scale.

In the meantime, check out the Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires trailer below:

The second is Dynasty Warriors for mobile platforms Android and iOS.

A closed beta test will run in Japan from 8 October 2020 at 1pm GMT+8 to 12 October 2020 at 12.59pm GMT+8. Players can register here from 27 September 2020 at 2.30pm GMT+8 to 5 October 2020 at 9pm GMT+8.

However, no release date or window has been announced as of yet. In the meantime, check out some gameplay footage from the upcoming mobile game below:
