HBO’s Watchmen Is The Biggest Winner At Emmy Awards 2020
By Alleef Ashaari|September 21, 2020|0 Comment
HBO’s Watchmen by Damon Lindelof is a spiritual sequel to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ legendary comic book of the same name, picking up decades after the events of the source material. It ended its nine-episode first season run in December 2019.
It’s scary how relevant the themes of the series is in light of recent events, as the TV series also touched on police brutality, white supremacy, as well as the past and present plight of Black people, including the 1921 Tulsa massacre.
Developed by Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers), Watchmen won Outstanding Limited Series, with Regina King winning Outstanding Lead Actress for her role as Angela Abar / Sister Night and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II winning Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role as Cal Abar / Doctor Manhattan.
Lindelof himself and writer Cord Jefferson also won Outstanding Writing in a Limited Series for Watchmen Season 1 Episode 6 ‘This Extraordinary Being’.
Watchmen only missed out on three others awards that it was nominated for, including Outstanding Lead Actor (in which Jeremy Irons lost to I Know This Much is True’s Mark Ruffalo), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series (Jean Smart lost to Mrs. America‘s Uzo Aduba), and Outstanding Directing in a Limited Series (three different Watchmen episodes lost to Netflix’s Unorthodox).
Watchmen also won the following awards:
Overall, Watchmen won a whopping 11 awards at the Emmy Awards 2020.
