Bowser & Co. Arrested For Selling Nintendo Switch Hacks
Good news, advocates of legit Nintendo Switch products. Two members from a piracy organization called Team Xecuter, renowned for hacking and pirating Nintendo Switch consoles, have arrested two of its members. One of them is named Gary Bowser, the other Max Louarn.
Both were arrested and charged with fraud, and allegedly led the group which makes a line of tools for cracking locked-down gaming hardware. Team Xecuter is notorious for their Nintendo hacks, including a USB device called the SX Pro that allows the Nintendo Switch to run pirated games. Unlike other hack, modding, and emulation communities, Team Xecuture are for-profit driven. For context, most mod groups are against profit and focus towards open-source efforts. So that they don’t, you know, draw the ire of folks like Nintendo.
Speaking of which, Nintendo filed two lawsuits against Team Xecuter back in May, as well as shut down third-party retailers selling the organization’s products online. Here’s a quote from the US Justice Department concerning this state of affairs:
“These defendants were allegedly leaders of a notorious international criminal group that reaped illegal profits for years by pirating video game technology of U.S. companies. These arrests show that the department will hold accountable hackers who seek to commandeer and exploit the intellectual property of American companies for financial gain, no matter where they may be located.”
If both Bowser and Louarn are convicted, they face severe prison time of 20 years.
