Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Are Defending Their Decisions To Remove Features

Remember last year when people thought you could wallrun in the first-person action RPG Cyberpunk 2077? In a 2018 reveal trailer that states whatever it displayed is not indicative of the final product?

Apparently, those cool features are removed, surprise surprise, and people are up in arms about it alongside other features being removed. There have recently been Reddit conversations surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 where the game’s features from past trailers are cut in the final product. The company’s response? According to senior level designer Miles Tost, he said that fans’ heightened awareness about features that did not make it in the final game can be put down to the company’s transparency about its design process.

“Cutting features and scope is a very normal part of development. You can witness it so openly with our game, because we happily gave in to community wishes and showed you that 2018 demo. Think about it. The game—two years from release.

Of course we iterate and change stuff and of course we also will have ideas that sound great on paper but then doesn’t end up working out well in the game with all the other features. I understand, this is disappointing for everyone when it happens and also difficult to understand without all the context of development environment, but in this case I just kindly ask you for your trust.”

I’m just going to say this: that watermark at the top of the 2018 gameplay video below isn’t just for show: it’s CD Projekt’s way of saying that things will change in the final product. It sucks that some features are cut, but at the very least CRPG fans are getting their ultimate hardcore R-rated role-playing experience later this 19th November for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, as well as on next-gen consoles.

In fact, the company is riding on this game’s release to the point where they’re getting “hired help” in the form of certain content creators and influencers for possibly chump change. More on that later this week.
