Amazon’s Crucible Is Shutting Down
By Alleef Ashaari|October 10, 2020|0 Comment
Publisher Amazon Game Studios and developer Relentless Studios only just launched their free-to-play team-based PvP online multiplayer shooter, Crucible, in May 2020. However, it’s already shutting down merely months after its release.
According to a final blog update, the development team wrote:
That evaluation led us to a difficult decision: we’ll be discontinuing development on Crucible.
We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead of Crucible.
We’ll be transitioning our team to focus on New World and other upcoming projects from Amazon Games.
They also confirmed that they will be offering full refunds for any Crucible purchase and that the game can actually still be played until 9 November 2020.
It’s not surprising that Amazon’s first major game has stumbled right out of the game, considering how crowded and fierce the competition is. This year alone, we’ve seen the launch of Riot Games’ Valorant and Ubisoft’s Hyper Scape, not to mention existing games like Blizzard’s Overwatch and Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends.
