Michael B. Jordan Is Producing A Static Shock Movie
By Alleef Ashaari|October 19, 2020|0 Comment
We’re officially getting a Static Shock movie and Michael B. Jordan will be acting as a producer (via his company, Outlier Society) on the upcoming movie. Initially revealed during the DC FanDome event in August 2020, Static Shock will be directed by Reginald Hudlin.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan said:
“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centred around black superheroes; our community deserves that.
Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step.â€
Jordan is no stranger to comic books and their movie adaptations. Not only is he a bonafide fan, but he has also played the Human Torch in 2015’s Fantastic Four and Erik Killmonger in 2018’s Black Panther.
The Static Shock movie will follow protagonist Static, who first appeared in 1993’s Static issue #1 via Milestone Comics, a now-defunct company which was under parent DC Comics.
However, the character only truly gained prominence via the Static Shock animated series, which ran for 54 episodes from September 2000 to May 2004. The series starred Virgil Hawkins, a teenager who transforms into a superhero with electromagnetic powers after being exposed to strange gas.
Static only entered the mainstream DC Comics universe in 2008, but recently DC Comics announced that they would be relaunching the Milestone universe, with new Static Shock comics alongside it.
I’m sure many 90s kids like me had fond memories of growing up with Static Shock. Here’s a jolt of nostalgia for all of you:
