Battle royale standalone Call Of Duty Warzone has been a success so far. How much of a success?
During a recent earnings call (via PC Gamer), Activision president and CEO Daniel Alegre revealed that the Call Of Duty franchise now boasts an impressive 111 million monthly active users across all platforms.
He attributes this specifically to Call Of Duty Warzone, stating that “monthly players grew over tenfold year-over-year on PC.” What that means is that there are ten times more players on PC in 2020 compared to last year in 2019.
In addition, Alegre also said that Call Of Duty Warzone has succeeded in attracting players to Call Of Duty Modern Warfare as well, thereby resulting in the highest first-year sales in franchise history.
He continued:
“Across platforms hours played in the Modern Warfare universe where approximately seven times higher year-over-year versus the prior title.
We again saw substantial year-over-year growth in premium game sales as Warzone players chose to upgrade to the full Call of Duty experience.
Modern Warfare‘s first-year sales are the highest in Call of Duty‘s history with two-thirds of lifetime units sold digitally.”
In recent news, Activision also confirmed that Call Of Duty Warzone won’t be changing to a new engine when Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War releases for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Battle.net on 13 November 2020.
