PlayStation Exclusives Will Be “Built From The Ground Up” For PS5 Despite Also For PS4

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan said that PS5 games will be “built from the ground up” to take advantage of the new hardware, even though they will also be for PS4.
According to a Telegraph interview, Jim said that PlayStation exclusives will be both for PS4 and PS5 consoles, but obvious next-gen emphasis means they’ll be made from scratch for the PS5. Here is the official statement from the man himself:
“The first thing to say is that our PS5 experiences or versions of these games are built from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5 feature set. So I think offering a PS5 version of these games for the PS5 community and then a PS4 version of these games to the PS4 community, I don’t see what’s wrong with that.
We’ve got a community of PS4 gamers 100 million-strong. It would be wrong to walk away from those people too early. And they’ve been engaged with their PS4s this year under lockdown to a greater extent than at any point over the course of the cycle. They’re using their PlayStations. They’re happy with their PlayStations. Why would we stop giving them games?”
Man has a point. To recap, the following PlayStation exclusive titles are both for PS4 and PS5:
In addition, Sony’s SVP of Global Product Strategy and Management Hideaki Nishino added that the full generational transition from PS4 to PS5 “will take about three years”. So really, as long as you have a working PS4, there’s no need to humour scalpers by purchasing a PS5 for double its retail price for FOMO reasons. Three years is a good time to wait for all the PS5 games you actually want to play to come out.
