Star Wars’ Fennec Shand Will Return In The Bad Batch

Actress Ming-Na Wen famously appeared as the bounty hunter/assassin Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian Season 1, before apparently dying. We discovered that she was still alive recently in The Mandalorian Season 2 and it looks like we’ll see even more of her in the future.

In an interview with the Star Wars official website, Wen confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Fennec Shand in the upcoming Star Wars The Bad Batch animated series (which itself will be a spinoff of the recently-concluded Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series).

She said:

“Do you know how long I’ve had to keep silent about Fennec coming back?

This is the first time I’ve been able to talk about it!

Dave, if you wanted to keep it a secret you shouldn’t have put me in the trailer!

Everybody is saying they just want the confirmation.

So, yes, it is Fennec!

It’s a younger Fennec and she is voiced by me and I’m thrilled and beyond happy that Dave wanted to create more of a backstory for her.”

Star Wars The Bad Batch was initially announced back in July 2020, but just last week it was revealed to be one of ten Star Wars shows being developed for Disney Plus.

The Bad Batch was originally introduced in the final season of Star Wars The Clone Wars, and they were the focus of the first major story arc in the aforementioned season. The Bad Batch is an elite clone commando squad consisting of four clone troopers designed with genetic mutations.

These include:

  • “Tech,” a clone with heightened mental capacity and intelligence.
  • Clone Sergeant “Hunter,” a clone with improved sensory abilities.
  • “Wrecker,” a clone with enhanced strength.
  • “Crosshair,” a clone with sharpshooter abilities.

Now we know that we’ll also be seeing a younger Fennec Shand as voiced by Ming-Na Wen. It’s truly a great time to be a Star Wars fan.

About the younger Fennec Shand, she described her as:

“She’s cutting her teeth as a bounty hunter in The Bad Batch.

She’s still a loner, a drifter.

There’s just a sense of more recklessness about her, just bravado.

You know, a young punk.

She’s more adventurous and willing to take greater risks because she doesn’t know what the consequences are.”

However, we still don’t have a release date for the upcoming animated series. In the meantime, check out the sizzle reel for The Bad Batch below:
