Cyberpunk 2077 Sales Surpass 13 Million Units

Developer CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than a whopping 13 million units across all platforms as of 20 December 2020.

According to the Polish developer’s official report, the 13 million units sold already factors in “returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-mortar as well as digital storefronts.” What that means is that they have likely subtracted all request refunds which have been submitted to date.

Why did CD Projekt Red announce this now of all times? It’s clearly a PR move in light of the news that their investors are considering legal action against them due to all the problems since launch.

CD Projekt Red even pretty much states it outright in the same report, admitting that they’re disclosing the sales numbers to appease investors and shareholders.

The report states:

“The Management Board has decided to disclose the above information in the form of a current report due to its potential impact on investment-related decisions.”

Previously, it was revealed that the pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077 alone were more than eight million at launch, which means that the game sold at least an additional five million after launch.

Though this is an incredible feat, it remains to be seen how many of those 13 million will remain after more refund requests start coming in from disgruntled players on the PS4 and Xbox One.
