KKP Best Of 2020: Game #23

For the rest of our top 30 of 2020, head here.

#30, #29, #28, #27, #26, #25, #24.

#23: Doom Eternal (PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch)

Among all the shooters available and loaded for 2020, Doom Eternal is perhaps the most cathartic among the bunch. Your objective is to reach from point A to B, killing as many foes as possible while obstructing the impossible.

Find a giant Gore Nest in the middle of Earth? Deal with it. Need to launch yourself from a space cannon from one planet to another while also firing the biggest version of Doom’s staple kill-all-end-all gun to progress? You just do it.

Why go through all this shooter realistic cinema-style story nonsense when the Doom Slayer’s arc is just a whole bag of fun without the guilt? If the single-player insanity is at its apex with Doom Eternal and isn’t going to fall down anytime soon (thanks to its Ancient Gods DLC), I’m glad that it’s strafing past its multiplayer roots if it means more expansive levels, monkey bars-swinging, arena-shooting, weapons-upgrading, and demon one-punching.

Here’s to you, Doom Slayer. Long may he and his single-player shooter domination reign.
