KKP Best Of 2020: Game #18

More 2020 Best Games feature work here.

#18. No Straight Roads (PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One)

No Straight Roads is a game that Malaysians can be proud of. It’s probably the biggest fully made-in-Malaysia game ever made to date, and that’s not just in terms of sales alone. The folks at Metronomik have created something truly special with this rhythm-based action platformer.

I was impressed with the overall quality of No Straight Roads. It distinguishes itself with its unique art-style and Malaysian flavour that permeates almost every iota of its design; ranging from the characters, their English accents, easter eggs, and music.

The music is definitely the highlight of the game, and it combines well with the game’s combat mechanics. Yes, No Straight Roads isn’t perfect -it’s a bit buggy. But where else can you find a boss battle featuring wayang kulit (shadow puppets)?
