Disney Pulls Out All Stops For Star Wars In Latest Reveals
By Kenn Leandre|December 11, 2020|0 Comment
Riding high on the successes and uptrend of their prized Star Wars IP, Disney went all out during their most recent Investor Day announcements. These include the unveiling of a good mix of upcoming and anticipated shows, as well as unexpected but welcomed ones.
According to Disney, they plan to release over thirty new series and movies which will go straight to their Disney+ streaming service.
Over the next few years, roughly 10 @Marvel series, 10 @StarWars series, 15 Disney live action, @DisneyAnimation, and @Pixar series, plus 15 all-new Disney live action, Disney Animation, and Pixar features will be released directly on @DisneyPlus.

Announced earlier this morning, Disney sent the internet into a frenzy by bringing one of the most requested and sought for show to life by announcing that we are getting a live-action Ahsoka Tano series.

Most recently seen in Season 2’s fifth episode ‘The Jedi’, Rosario Dawson returns as the beloved Tongruta who first made her on-screen appearance in the 2008 Clone Wars animated film. To be set within the same timeline of the current The Mandalorian series, one can only speculate to encounter several characters believed to still be alive including Luke Skywalker, Ezra Bridger, and even Cal Kestis.
Also set within The Mandalorian timeline is the all new Rangers of the New Republic series. We don’t have much info on this but it sure does give some Republic Commando vibes.

Milking all they could from what is easily the best Star Wars movie of the past five years, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney decided to focus on Captain Cassian Andor. Diego Luna returns to reprise his role.

While don’t expect to see Felicity Jones to appear as Jyn Erso in it, we do anticipate seeing more of her father, Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso who would have already started working on the Death Star. Speaking of the Death Star …
Hayden Christensen returns as Darth Vader, joining Ewan McGregor in OBI-WAN KENOBI. The Original Series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith, and is coming to #DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/9WR2npRUkk

Yep. You read it right. Adding more hype to an already highly anticipated show, Hayden Christensen will finally reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker and don the Darth Vader suit once again. The confrontation between him and Obi-Wan is inevitable, and we would not be surprised to even see a certain dual-wielding Zabrak to also make an unexpected cameo in this series.
Other notable mentions are the reveals of a spin-off series from The Clone Wars animated series, Star War: The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions. The Bad Batch focuses on … well, The Bad Batch Squad which is made up of, according to Commander Cody, ‘defectively born clones who underwent unique and “desirable” mutations’.

A brand new ‘event series’ – whatever that means – focusing on Lando Calrissian is also coming, but not much info was given apart from that Justin Simien is in the early stages of developing it. Following the recent trend of things of Disney allowing actors and actresses reprising their roles , you can expect to see Donald Glover to return as Lando.
And we save something that to many, may be the best for last.
Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984) will direct a Rogue Squadron movie. Yes. THE Rogue Squadron. The final reveal of this short video gave us the chills.

So there you have it. All the big Star Wars-related stuff from this morning. Which announcement got you most hyped up? For us at KKP, it’s definitely a tie between an Ahsoka-led series and the potential showdown #2 between Obi-Wan and Anakin which should also be their first for Anakin as Darth Vader. Rogue Squadron isn’t far behind on the hype scale; it’s truly a nice Life Day Christmas surprise for fans all over the world.
