Disney Plus is currently still not officially available in Malaysia. However, that might be changing sooner than we initially expected.
On LinkedIn, Disney has posted several Malaysia-based job openings for roles related to Disney Plus. We discovered six different job openings for four Malaysia-based roles (in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor) for Disney Plus, including the following:
- Disney+, Metadata QC Coordinator – 3 Months Contract
- Disney+, Assistant Manager – Curation & Planning
- Disney+, Manager – Brand & Partnerships Marketing (Job Opening One, Two, and Three)
- Disney+, Senior Manager – Brand & Partnerships Marketing
It seems like the first two roles will be more directly involved with the content side of Disney Plus, while the latter two roles will be responsible for planning and developing marketing strategies for the Malaysian market.
These job openings come only a few months after Malaysia’s Ahmad Izham Omar was appointed as executive director of content & creative for Disney Plus in Southeast Asia.
The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) was also mentioned in the ending credits for The Mandalorian Season 2 due to Malaysia-based Base FX’s VFX work.
It might not be long now until Disney Plus officially arrives in Malaysia, especially now that even Disney-related channels have been taken off Astro as of January 2021.
