KKP Best Of 2020: Game #6
For more games of 2020, head here.
What makes a great follow-up to a cherished indie Metroidvania title? Simple: just make it bigger and better.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps does exactly that: more options for combat and movement for little ol’ Ori, a bigger map to explore every nook and cranny in, more chase sequences and thrilling multi-layer boss fights, and a difficulty that accounts for all of this plus a fair checkpoint system.
With a gorgeous art style that rivals most games in the same indie and even triple-A space, as well as a lovely score to accompany it, this sequel is just superior to the original in every single way. Those Xbox One issues I mentioned in my previous review? That’s all gone in the Xbox Series version, so what we’re left with is a 2D Metroidvania masterpiece of 2020.
