Here’s How Twitch Will Solve Its PogChamp Conundrum
Just recently, Twitch has removed the PogChamp emote following the recent tweets and statements from the face of the emote Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez. However, the streaming platform company said it wishes to find a way for “the sentiment and use of Pog to live on” by collaborating with the streaming community.
And by the community, it means renowned folks like Sean “Day9” Plott who have been around the esports and streaming scene for a long while. Twitch seems to like Day9’s idea of a dynamic emote that randomly selects a different streamer’s “funny” face every time it is used. And thus, Twitch made it official.
You know what? In the spirit of figuring out 2021 together, let’s just roll with it for now!

The major difference? Twitch wishes to use a new face to take on the PogChamp role every 24 hours. The first face in the rotation is Kenny “unRooolie” McWild, who submitted himself as a candidate on 6th January. In using this upcoming rotation, Twitch may avoid a situation where they have to remove a super-popular emote that has its context changed thanks to controversial actions of the emote’s face. In this case, it’s to say silly things in support of people who unlawfully stormed a government complex.
Still, we’ll miss that PogChamp face though. Let’s post it here again for posterity; you’ve had a lovely 10 years!
