Sonic The Hedgehog is getting a brand new 3D animated show on Netflix titled Sonic Prime.
It is set to be a production by Sega, WildBrain Studios (best known for Netflix’s ongoing Carmen Sandiego animated series) and Man Of Action Entertainment (best known for Ben 10 and Generator Rex).
According to Variety, the 24-episode series will feature Sonic in an adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands — and also represents a “journey of self-discovery and redemption” for the speedy, blue spiny mammal.

Netflix original animation director Dominique Bazay said:
“Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone’s heart including my own.
I spent many hours with the Blue Blur as a kid and it’s a privilege to be able to bring this character everyone knows and loves on a brand new adventure with Netflix — one that a generation of loyal fans and brand new fans around the world can enjoy.”
Sonic Prime will be aimed at kids aged six to 11, as well as “legacy Sonic fans of all ages”. It is slated to premiere worldwide on Netflix sometime in 2022.
The Netflix project comes on the heels of the news that Roger Craig Smith, the voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog for the past decade since 2010, has officially left the role. As of now, it remains unclear who will be voicing Sonic in the upcoming animated series.
