The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Super Bowl Trailer Breakdown
By Alleef Ashaari|February 8, 2021|0 Comment
We have finally received our first full trailer for the upcoming The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which debuted earlier today during the Big Game (the Super Bowl). Running at just under two minutes long, here are the interesting stuff that I noticed during the trailer:
That looks a lot like Hong Kong or Singapore, but it might turn out to be a location that might be making its debut from the comics into the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Madripoor. In the comics, Madripoor is essentially the Marvel universe’s version of Malaysia, Singapore, or a Southeast Asian nation.
However, it’s usually a stereotypical den of criminals, with lawlessness and crime rampant. Still, it’s a popular place in the Marvel universe. Perhaps Baron Zemo has somehow escaped prison and is in hiding in Madripoor.
Fun fact: We’ve even seen members of the X-Men eating Malaysian food like laksa and lepat pisang when visiting Madripoor (here’s proof, we’ve covered it).
We last saw Helmut Zemo AKA Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) back in 2016’s Captain America Civil War, but he’s officially back for some trouble as the main antagonist of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. He has returned with his grudge on superheroes for failing to save his family in Sokovia is as strong as ever, and he’s back to finish the job.
In the trailer, we can hear him say:
“Superheroes… cannot be allowed to exist.
I have no intention to leave my work unfinished.”
If you haven’t, here’s our full look at his new more comics-accurate costume:
This must be Zemo visiting a memorial in Sokovia.
This is actress Erin Kellyman in an unknown role, but it’s clear that she’s one of the Flag Smashers; an anarchist terrorist group of some sort. In the comics, the Flag-Smasher has always been an individual supervillain who is basically anti-patriotism, so the MCU has basically adapted the character into an entire group/organization instead.
We don’t really see his face but this is most likely John F. Walker AKA US Agent (Wyatt Russell) making his debut as the US government appoints him as the official’ Captain America, much to the chagrin of both Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). In the comics, John F. Walker was a super-soldier who started as a villain called the Super-Patriot, before replacing Steve Rogers as Captain America when the former refused to follow the orders of the government agency Commission On Superhuman Activities.
If you haven’t, here’s our full look at his new more comics-accurate costume:
In another moment in the trailer, we catch a glimpse of him in full costume at a football game:
Sharon Carter (Emily Van Camp) returns to the MCU for the first time since 2016’s Captain America Civil War and she’s seemingly on the run for some reason. I have reason to believe that The Falcon And The Winter Soldier will introduce a version of the comic book’s Commission On Superhuman Activities and that’s probably why Sharon is like a fugitive of some sort.
The Falcon And The Winter Soldier will premiere on 19 March 2021, with six episodes planned. In the meantime, you can check out the full trailer and new poster below:
