How Metallica’s BlizzCon 2021 Performance Got Nerfed By Twitch
BlizzCon 2021 viewers got to watch heavy metal group Metallica perform its hit song “For Whom The Bell Tolls” to an online audience. If you’re one of the many who watched it on Twitch, however, you were in for a hilarious treat.
See, in order to avoid a DMCA takedown on Twitch, Metallica’s performance was replaced with the most non-heavy metal-sounding music imaginable from its royalty-free library.
Check out the “smooth” transition below:
the current state of Twitch: the official Twitch Gaming channel cut off the live Metallica concert to play 8bit folk music to avoid DMCA pic.twitter.com/sCn56So8Ee

Twitch did not obtain the proper rights to allow Metallica’s music to be played on the channel. At the very least, the full Metallica performance was on YouTube and Blizzard’s own Twitch channel.
Would one call this poetic justice as Metallica were one of the bands who led the incredibly strict music rights charge to the point where DMCAs are the norm? After all, the Metallica vs Napster lawsuit redefined how we listen to music since 21 years ago. Sound your thoughts either on this post or on our social networks.
