A Twisted Metal TV Series Is Coming From Deadpool & Cobra Kai Writers
By Alleef Ashaari|February 23, 2021|0 Comment
Remember the Twisted Metal franchise? Many gamers grew up on the vehicular combat games during the PS1 and PS2 eras, but the series sadly stopped at the PS3 with 2012’s Twisted Metal. Thankfully, a live-action Twisted Metal TV series adaptation is officially in development at Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.
According to Variety, the Twisted Metal TV series is described as an action-comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind the Deadpool and Zombieland movies.
PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash said:
“Twisted Metal is one of the most beloved franchises from PlayStation.
We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans.â€
The current synopsis for the Twisted Metal series is that it follows a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.
Cobra Kai writer and producer Michael Jonathan Smith will write and executive produce the Twisted Metal TV series. Meanwhile, Will Arnett will executive produce via his Electric Avenue production company along with Marc Forman and Peter Principato of Artists First. Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions will also executive produce alongside Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios.
The Twisted Metal TV series is the third major PlayStation property that Sony is adapting into a live-action movie or TV series after the upcoming Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland as the titular lead, and HBO’s The Last Of Us TV series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively.
