Daft Punk, The Geniuses Behind Tron: Legacy & Interstellar 5555’s Music, Break Up
It’s a sad day for music fans, electronica aficionados, and anime/sci-fi viewers everywhere.
Daft Punk, the most influential electronica group and one of the many noteworthy French exports next to wine, cheese, Zinedine Zidane, and Asterix, has broken up after 28 long years of making awesome music. According to the group’s publicist Kathryn Frazier, the long-time music duo consisting of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo who always have their DJ helmets has released a video titled “Epilogue” to announce their retirement.
No further information has been shared on why they broke up, nor was there any information on whether the duo will perform outside of their Daft Punk outfit. This is rather sad news, considering Daft Punk’s music that’s full of synths and catchy-as-hell funk has always been on my mind since that Leiji Matsumoto classic Interstellar 5555.
While I did enjoy the group’s album Homework, it wasn’t until Discovery (the basis of Interstellar 5555) where I was a fan for life. The fact that they also elevated Tron: Legacy with their soundtrack is proof that the group is influential to many artists and touched many pop culture fans’ hearts.
Thank you, Daft Punk. We’ll never forget your amazing contributions to music in general.
