Overwatch 2: New Maps, Hero Missions & Updated Hero Designs
By Alleef AshaariVerified|February 20, 2021|0 Comment
During BlizzConline 2021, Blizzard revealed more about the upcoming Overwatch 2, including new maps, more details about the Hero Missions co-op PvP mode, and even update designs for existing heroes. The last update we received about the sequel to 2016’s Overwatch was back in BlizzCon 2019.
Let’s see what’s new this time around….
Overwatch 2 Rome map.
We received our first look at two new Overwatch 2 maps; Rome and New York City. The Rome map will be the setting for one of the maps for Push mode, one of the new additions in Overwatch 2, while New York City was described as being “authentic” but with an Overwatch spin.

Unlike the first Overwatch, Overwatch 2 will feature both PvP and PvE modes One big new feature is Hero Missions, which will be the game’s co-op PvE mode where players can level up heroes with RPG-like skill trees. According to Blizzard, there will apparently be hundreds of hero missions with a variety of enemy units, bosses, and updated versions of existing maps.
Players can also look forward to dynamic weather effects, including sandstorms, blizzards, and more, as well as dynamic shifts in the time of day. This will impact the game’s levels and environments, providing a different experience with each situation.
In addition, hero talents allow heroes to be played in various different ways, depending on the skill tree that a player picks. Check out an example of Soldier 76’s massive skill trees below:
Last but not least, there will be a bunch of new enemy types, including the Puller, who is reminiscent of the infamous Witch from the Left 4 Dead franchise.
Lastly, Blizzard also revealed the updated hero designs for several characters, including McCree, Reaper, Pharah and Widowmaker.
What would an Overwatch game be without a new hero? During the Behind The Scenes video, Blizzard teased more gameplay of the new Overwatch 2 hero Sojourn. She’s a playable black woman who has a pretty sweet railgun and is meant for FPS players who are good with their aim (ala Widowmaker mains). Beyond that, there’s nothing else. Let’s hope they reveal her in a future character trailer.
